AbstractThe GeoGuard Initiative: Mobilizing GI&S for Domestic OperationsTrack: Defense and Intelligence Author The National Guard's top priority is the security and defense of our homeland. The National Guard also realizes this mission requires they transform for the 21st century so they may remain relevant, reliable and ready to execute. Part of this transformation agenda included the NGB taking aggressive steps to stand up a GeoGuard program to more effectively harness geospatial information and services (GI&S) for their domestic mission. This paper will describe the vision, mission and strategic path of the GeoGuard Initiative which aims to bring heightened attention and effectiveness to domestic operations across the 54 states, territories and the District of Columbia. At a minimum, the GeoGuard program will facilitate extraordinary sharing of geospatial information and services between Army and Air National Guards, between Title 32 and active duty components, and also provide a new GI&S capability for state emergency operations.
