AbstractApplying GIS in Highway Right of Way Needs Assessment Track: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Author GIS was applied to the highway right of way needs assessment. First, the right of way data for highway which was originally in Microstation file format was converted to GIS shapefile. Second, the right of way data for programmed projects along the highway was obtained from the highway agency in text format and converted to GIS shapefile. Third, the mile markers for the highway at 0.1 mile interval were created for identifying the locations along the highway by using the GIS utility developed. Fourth, the dimensions were created at each mile marker for the right of way data by using the GIS utility developed. Finally, a GIS application was developed to create the GIS layout maps for the right of way needs assessment at any locations on the highway.
