Abstract

GIS in the Army National Guard: Environmental Management Lessons Learned
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Bob Reeder

Some of the deepest roots in the use of GIS in the military can be traced back to the innovative research conducted by the US Army Corps of Engineers in the 1970s for environmental management of military lands. The Army National Guard has had a long-standing program that has matured over decades to now be a vital institutional part of the Army National Guard mission. This presentation will include an overview of the broad GIS portfolio that exists today in the Environmental Division at the Army National Guard Readiness Center, and the potential contributions these resources could make to a larger GeoGuard capability for the domestic operations mission.
