AbstractGIS in the Kentucky National Guard: Lessons Learned for GeoGuardTrack: Defense and Intelligence Author The tip of the spear in the conduct of domestic operations resides with the local first responders and the organic capabilities of the State National Guard. This presentation will highlight how the Kentucky Adjutant General has leveraged his geospatial cadre and technologies to address recent crises such as the 2009 ice storm. The presentation will also cite key lessons learned by the Kentucky National Guard that will benefit the national GeoGuard strategy. Finally, the Kentucky National Guard GIS Manager, who also is the only State National Guard GIS manager to have served also as a State government GIO, will share his perspectives on the potential for the GeoGuard Initiative to concurrently contribute not only to civil-military geodata sharing for domestic operations, but concurrently contributing to realizing the long-standing visions for state and national spatial data infrastructures.
