So You're Thinking about Doing AVL and MWM?
Track: Electric Utilities
Authors: David Totman

User presentation of a case study on a production implementation of Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) and Mobile Workforce Management (MWM) technologies at Colorado Springs Utilities. In our four service Utility, we have chosen a phased approach such that our functionality can grow with our ability to sustain the technology in both expertise and limited municipal funding. We will highlight the strengths of the solution and dare expose the weaknesses. To the extent possible, we will discuss all facets of the project so that the audience can come away with a working knowledge of what it takes to implement a project similar to ours. We will discuss the functional requirements of our Construction and Operation departments, architecture of the Esri and Microsoft solution, phased project schedule, internal and Esri Business Partner resource allocation, and most importantly, the political and cultural challenges of implementing new technology in a Utility workforce.
