Abstract

ANG GeoBase: USNG for Civil-Military integration to support Domestic Operations
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Mark Alexander

The DoD, FEMA, DHS, the NGA, the FGDC, and many state level organizations, all promote the adoption of the United States National Grid (USNG). In many states, the Army National Guard has been trained to use the USNG. Operationally equivalent to the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS), the ANG is implementing the USNG to support Domestic Operations in concert with current DoD directives to include Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Instruction 3900.01C. This presentation will describe how the Air National Guard Data Architecture and Data Management Plans incorporate USNG to facilitate mission integration across the civil and military domains, as well as across state and federal communities, to include Title 10 and Title 32 activities in support of the GeoGuard Initiative. Additionally, the presentation will describe strategies, specific actions and challenges associated with implementing the USNG for long term adoption.
