Abstract

USAF Central Command—Expeditionary Site Mapping
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Charles Robbins, Dave Williams

In the Joint Engineering Geospatial community, AFCENT Expeditionary IGI&S provides policy and guidance related to geospatial technologies for the CENTCOM area of responsibility. The changing technological landscape has been an opportunity to improve IGI&S services through greater information sharing capabilities and enhanced end products via the ArcGIS geo-database. These geo-databases are used in the combat theater by engineering personnel to manage and update base facility and utility information at their respective locations. These disconnected databases roll up and into a larger enterprise geodatabase which acts as a central repository. This data in turn in exported out onto a centralized data warehouse for access by engineering personnel on the DoD network. Additionally, this database is the platform for mapping services provided to end users for ingestion by clients (e.g. ArcGIS Explorer (AGX), Google Earth Enterprise and ArcReader) and thin client internet mapping services.
