Abstract

Aligning Two Expeditionary Geospatial Missions: ACC/AFCENT and ARCENT
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Craig Erlandson, Dave Williams, Mike Hawrylak

Barriers exist within any large bureaucracy. This is no truer than in the Department of Defense when it comes to data sharing. While technology is often not the root cause, other factors (e.g. politics, communication, operational tempo, etc.) often make it difficult to share data and ideas, even when the mutual benefits are known. This session will discuss the tight integration of two large DoD geospatial programs: USAF ACC/AFCENT IGI&S and US Army ARCENT UDCM. These programs share a common mission and geography and by leveraging each other's investments, the end result is overall better support for the war fighter. Detailed topics include: history, staffing, data modeling, system architecture, and formalizing the agreement.
