Abstract

Nevada Division of Forestry State Assessment and Strategy
Track: Forestry and Wildlife Management
Authors: John Watermolen

The 2008 Farm Bill, federal legislation that provides funding to State Forestry agencies, required all state forestry agencies to conduct a statewide assessment of forest resource conditions, trends, threats and to delineate priority landscape areas, in order to qualify for continued federal grant funding. The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) used GIS throughout the project to develop a comprehensive natural resource assessment upon which strategies for future programmatic direction are based. The presentation will highlight the integral role GIS played throughout the project, and will present the workflow of process and lessons learned. Additionally, a summary of the final work products, the state assessment, priority landscapes and strategies will be presented
