Abstract

Options to Publish Urban Stream Health GIS Data Online
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Authors: Geoff Williams

Using Little Stringybark Creek Catchment in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia as the study site, this research will explore the options available to publish GIS data on the web. This urban area case study is a new approach to stormwater policy design, protecting stream health by reducing the amount of stormwater runoff from connected drainage. Making the environmental progress and successes available online will benefit both the stakeholders and the local community.

The GIS information will include proprietary products from ESRI; ArcIMS, Cloud technology, Flash through to Open Source; Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) and Wikimaps. With the original data in ESRI ArcGIS the open source capabilities of platform independent products like SVG that can be directly exported from ArcMap, allows the data to be published online without the need for specialists and high cost programs thus enabling lower cost implementation with greater accessibility for users.
