Making Jamaican roads safer for all road users is the mission of the Ministry of Transport and Works, as efforts are being made to ensure that the tenets of the National Road Safety Policy are implemented. The identification and amelioration of areas designated as Hot Spots are crucial, as Jamaica joins the worldwide efforts to play a profound role in ensuring that the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011-2020) is achieved. Since 2001, one thousand and sixty-eight (1068) Jamaicans have been killed in traffic crashes in the Cornwall County. Curtailing traffic fatalities in this Region is important, thus achieving Below 300 fatalities will be more easily attained. Roadways in this Region play a critical role in the economic development of Jamaica, thus the need to eliminate these Hot Spots through the use of Geographic Information Systems.
