Abstract

Building an Enterprise GIS System for Waterleidingmaatschappij Drenthe, Netherlands (WMD)
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Authors: Petra Holzhaus

Waterleidingmaatschappij Drenthe (WMD)is serving 450,000 people through 195,000 connections and producing 30 million m3 of drinking water through groundwater resources. WMD deals with changing regulations and technology, constrained budgets, aging infrastructure and departments using various data and information systems.
The original need for GIS at WMD focused on map production, based on Smallworld technology.
With a vision to maximize GIS Capabilities, WMD initiated a project to implement an enterprise ArcGIS systemto establish communication between various enterprise and legacy systems. The goal is a GIS that can be used more efficiently and effectively, even in the field using remote devices.

Topics are:

Integration with other systems such as Yellow fox, Klic (dig alert), Asset Management Systems etc.

Inventorise the needs of the potential users of an enterprise ArcGIS

How should the system be maintained, changed, modified or replaced to incorporate these needs

Can we measure the ROI (Return Of Investment)
