Abstract

Advancing Water Utility Capabilities and Efficiencies with ArcServer
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Authors: Brandon Pfleckl

The Service Authority of Prince William County (SA), Virginia provides water and sewer services to a population of 360,000 and is in the process of transitioning from an Autodesk MapGuide 6.5 platform to ArcGIS Server 10. This will push the SA to the forefront of technology and business efficiency. The Autodesk platform is a standalone system with limited integration capabilities. The ArcServer Enterprise platform will enable the SA to integrate GIS with other systems and geo-enable Customer Service, O&M, and Financials into one cohesive integrated system with GIS as the hub. Furthermore, the SA plans to replace other existing standalone systems, including GPS and routing tools, into the ESRI environment. This will lead to efficiencies in company-wide operations, improved accuracy in data entry, reduced duplication of data, quicker and more accurate customer service responses, on-the-fly routing, dynamic field editing, and more advanced spatial data analysis.
