ASFINAG plans, finances, maintains and tolls the entire Austrian motorway and expressway network covering 2,178 kilometers.
The ASFINAG Geographical Information System was established in 2003. The initial aim was to store basic information about the road network and producing various thematic maps. During the last 7 years the ASFINAG GIS developed into a strong tool within the company. Datasets from several databases within the organization can be displayed online in the GIS using Web technologies. By comparing this data additional information can be gathered and used for further decision making.
Furthermore GIS supports all staff members during their daily business with information concerning several departments. The GIS services contain information about road attributes, parcels and owners, responsibilities along motorway / expressway network, inventory data and several other geodata.
GIS is a tool for the company assisting and improving operating cycles, increasing transparency and spreading information across all departments within ASFINAG.
