Abstract

Enterprise GIS at the Port of Tacoma: Integrating Beyond Maps
Track: Transportation
Authors: Catherine Crook

The Port of Tacoma is the seventh largest container port in North America. Each year, the port handles approximately 18 million tons of cargo, and more than $36 billion of commerce. The port started out on 240 acres (0.97 km2) in 1918 and now owns more than 2,400 acres (972 km2) of land. Coordinating activities, leveraging assets, maintaining facilities, enabling security, and ensuring the efficient utilization of the Port's holdings requires a robust enterprise GIS. This presentation focuses on the GIS development of ArcGIS Server with ArcGIS API for Flex and its evolution into an integrated enterprise GIS. This will be used to develop GIS applications that will integrate with existing business systems such as IBM Maximo. These integrations will allow the power of GIS to further enhance the analytical and management capability of the Port of Tacoma's lines of business.
