Abstract

Parcels 2.0 @ Maricopa County, AZ
Track: Cadastral and Land Records
Authors: Timothy Boncoskey

The Maricopa County Assessor's Office has recently replaced its legacy parcel visualization site. This popular site is used by many groups including real estate professionals, financial institutions, government agencies and the public.

Maricopa County has taken a Web 2.0 approach and developed a website based on common workflows and user-centered design principles. The website integrates various internal and external services and resources. It was designed to match the performance expectations set by newer consumer-focused Internet mapping sites. To achieve these objectives a comprehensive review of the business, technical, and information architectures supporting the website were necessary.

This case study will highlight the requirements, challenges, and ultimate solution that the Maricopa Assessor's office navigated through. While it highlights new web technology and best practices, managers and decision makers will benefit from the business decisions and considerations that Maricopa County encountered and can apply those lessons and experiences to their own projects.
