Using Wordpress to build a Web 2.0 GIS Data Portal

LA County's vast data holdings were hidden inside its GIS systems. In order to give County and public users the ability to find and use its data, the County developed an innovative GIS Data Portal. Using the power of Wordpress, a free, open source platform, and free downloadable plugins, GIS users can find, view, download, and subscribe to updates of County GIS data. Leveraging the Web 2.0 capabilities of Wordpress, the County can track statistics on searches, make its data more visible, eliminate redundant data creation, automatically notify users of new data, and rapidly respond to requests for data.
A live demonstration of the portal and the components used to create it will highlight the power and ease of use of this no-cost solution
