A Business Approach for Online Mapping Using the Silverlight API

Many local government online mapping applications are a shotgun approach, displaying the complete catalog of a City's GIS. While comprehensive, most Citizens are looking for specific information on a specific location for a specific purpose. Visiting a single site, scrolling through a laundry list of layers and legends is not going to make that task easier. At Olympia, we took a targeted and business-oriented approach to our online mapping service. Aligning directly with our, I want to. web strategy we developed a web mapping application that enables users to get an answer within a few clicks and entries on a map. Using the Silverlight API, we developed a code base driven by speed, cut-and-paste website publishing, and configuration files made for flexibility and responsiveness. New map sites can be brought up in minutes and modifications done in seconds. This is how we did it.
