In this study, an attempt was made to develop a simple, time efficient and generic approach to monitor tea plantations in Northeast India. Tea is affected by aplethora of factors: age, environment and management. Remote sensing and GIS offers an efficient and reliable means of collecting information required to map tea type and acreage and also to extract information on crop health. Information from remotely sensing can be integrated into Geographic Information System (GIS) by combining with ancillary data which could provide various insights to the cultural practices being implied into the cropping system and help farmers identify areas of problem within a field. This will enable planters to improve their land productivity and also reduce environmental impacts.
