Abstract

Pinpointing Addresses in Will County
Track: State and Local Government
Authors: Greg Johnson, Howard Kim

The GIS Department has just completed a three year project locating over 400 thousand addresses in Will County. Prior to this project, unincorporated addresses were maintained through disparate documents and maps. Several departments participated in the preliminary planning of this project. This project took into account the current FGDC/NENA address standards. GIS personnel reviewed several data and image resources to verify the accuracy of addresses. After technicians would position the address locations in GIS, specialists would perform quality control tests to insure the updated addresses aligned with existing data in other county databases. These tests included multi-level geocoding, database relations, and python scripts. The final address layer will be maintained by E9-1-1 who can coordinate with emergency and municipal personnel to insure the most accurate data. This presentation will cover the tasks used in ArcGIS, and our plan to provide an interface for non-county personnel to upload their address information.
