In the summer of 2010 the Mayor announced an initiative to reduce the amount of graffiti in the City. This led to the City's GIS staff to be contacted by the police department's Major Crimes Unit to develop a mobile application to document graffiti in the City. The Major Crimes Unit wanted to use the information collected to prosecute the offenders and seek restitution. The GIS staff selected a third party application to develop a mobile solution utilizing ArcGIS server and Blackberry Smartphones. The information is collected including a picture on a customized form. When the record is saved, the information is uploaded wirelessly to an enterprise SDE geodatabase. To view the information, a customized viewer was developed using ArcGIS API for Flex using secured services. This presentation will describe the process the GIS staff used to develop the database, the mobile application and the FlexViewer application.
