GIS as a Tool to Make Hazard and Risk Analysis

The Agency for Planning and Building Services is part of the City Administration of Oslo.
From 1984, the Agency for Planning and Building Services has utilized GIS and GIT by traditional means to establish, maintain and distribute detailed technical base maps, land use maps and register of land ownership.
During the last year the agency has done a lot of work to respond to the new Planning and Building Act, amongst others we have got a new demand to make hazard and risk analysis in all land use planning. In this setting however the agency has started up the work to procedures to utilize GIS for the making of the hazard and risk analysis.
To respond to this the new requests, the department of mapping has also done a lot, to build up the competence to the employees, so that they can meet the new requests from the area planners.
