The Fourmile Canyon Wildfire Recovery Process

The Fourmile Canyon wildfire was Colorado's most destructive wildfire. In total over 170 houses and 200+ outbuildings were destroyed in the mountainous area west of Boulder, Colorado.

This presentation will not focus on what the response during the fire, but the recovery after it. Land Use decisions made now will have far-reaching lasting impacts on both the built and natural environment. This presentation will go over how GIS is being used throughout the recovery process to date. Down-to-earth questions on whether, how and where property owners should rebuild was evaluated using GIS, in addition to how GIS has been used for outreach to those affected.
