Abstract

GIS Can Project Native Forests at Risk from Climate Change
Track: Climate Change and Conservation
Authors: Alan Journet

Although the predicted impact of climate change globally over the next century is dire, this does not help local or regional forest managers understand what risks their particular forest associations might face nor guide them in adapting to future conditions.
Through the ClimateWise program offered to regional planners by the Geos Institute, forest managers can learn what the best scientific analysis of the future suggests might happen to environmental conditions at the local level. Armed with such projections, forest managers are then able to develop strategies for adapting to the changes likely to befall their resources.

This presentation will identify some of the regional projections that have been developed by ClimateWise, and delineate some of the strategies that have been developed by resource managers confronted with these projections.
