Abstract

The On-Line Atlas of Oregon Lakes
Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources
Authors: Richard Lycan

The on-line Atlas of Oregon Lakes was funded by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality through an EPA grant to facilitate sharing of water quality data. The content includes physical, chemical, and biological data; descriptive data for lake watersheds such as land cover and ownership; bathymetric maps; and downloadable PDF maps for 230 lakes. The atlas was developed using ESRI desktop and server software. Several state and federal agencies provided support to the effort. For example, the Oregon Water Resources Division and USGS undertook an effort to improve the GNIS coverage for lakes in Oregon. Rather than using existing map services, a background map was constructed based on NHD hydrography and other features from the best available sources. It is expected that the users of the on-line atlas will range from water quality scientists and planners who need the water quality data to fishermen who will value the bathymetric mapping
