20 years of GIS in YPF, Argentinian Oil Company

In 1992, YPF took its first steps in the implementation and use of GIS with the digitization of base maps, cultural and seismic data, pursuing the objetive of having geographical databases to get capabilities of produce high quality mapping and spatial data analysis in order to improve business processes.
Over the years GIS development in YPF has been dramatic. With the advance of hardware platforms and software, more GIS applications were developed in company for engineering, geology, geophysics, geochemistry, environmental, mining domain, telecommunications, etc.
In recent years has been implemented GIS integrated tools for the management of surface facilities and applications for pipelines integrity management.
Currently YPF has over 900 GIS users, which display the great evolution that this technology has had and we think that share our experiences and lessons learned along such a rich history could be of interest to others companies and users.
