Green Building Information Gateway: Advancing Green Building Practice with GIS
Track: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction

Green building is a global movement dedicated to transforming the built environment. The US Green Building Council advances green building through its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDŽ) rating systems. Over the last decade, LEED has evolved to include neighborhoods, homes, schools, new construction, commercial interiors, and existing buildings. LEED-certified buildings are now a dynamic global geographic phenomenon, with thousands of projects certified worldwide. As green building practice continues to grow, it is becoming critical to understand its spatial and temporal dimensions, the prevalence and frequency of successful green building strategies and the factors underlying project performance. The Green Building Information Gateway, an ArcServer-based web portal, was developed to provide a view of the green building landscape previously unavailable in our industry, and a mechanism for studying and understanding trends and patterns of green building activity and their implications for stakeholders.
