Abstract

Integrating ArcGIS and EAM for Effective Work and Asset Management
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater

GIS and Enterprise Asset Management systems (EAM) are two technologies commonly used by asset intensive organizations such as utilities to manage distributed and underground assets. Historically, utilities have implemented these systems separately because they were intended to support different business needs. EAM software is used to manage assets and work resources and GIS is used to for modeling and to create hard copy map books. More recently, utilities have realized they can get more out of their technology investment and break down information silos reducing data duplication if the systems integrated. This presentation will focus on streamlining work management practices for underground assets by integrating EAM systems and ArcGIS Server. We will outline an approach and highlight the benefits received from integrating ArcGIS and EAM technologies. A case study integrating ArcGIS Server and Oracle WAM for a water utility will be presented and integration functionality will be demonstrated.
