Abstract

Using Data Interoperability to Hit the Mark with Data Accuracy
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Authors: Toni Jackson, Larry Phillips

The lifeblood of any organization is data. Accuracy of that data is vitally important. Small improvements in the quality and relevance of data can often lead to substantial benefits. This presentation will discuss how San Antonio Water System (SAWS) improved data accuracy by using the ArcGIS Data Interoperability Extension to convert and integrate multiple databases and formats with varying schemas into a single Geodatabase. Once all of the data was converted queries could be run to perform the first QA/QC process on SAWS complete water, wastewater and recycle system. We were able to raise the quality, accuracy and efficiency of the data by more than 30%. We'll also highlight how the resulting data accuracy led to significant results in additional Returns on Investment (ROI), Returns on Assets (ROA), increased employee productivity, better business and master planning and better forecasting.
