Abstract

GIS Web Application for Living Plant Collections Research
Track: Parks and Natural Reserves
Authors: Brian Morgan

This session will present the results of a project to develop a GIS web application for living plant collections research at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University that is linked to university herbaria and library collections, as well as genetic and biodiversity informatics collections worldwide. The goal of this project is to provide staff, visitors, and researchers with easy access to integrated collection information and powerful tools for collection analysis and research that will increase the use and value of living plant collections.

The session will include a discussion on how the project employs the ArcGIS Public Garden Data Model, ArcGIS and BG-BASE connectivity, and the Flex API to deliver rich content to application users, and details on how the application template can be used by other institutions.
