GIS System to Identify Problem Locations and Support Enforcement Deployment

To improve Louisiana's motor carrier risk management, an online decision support system application which includes both the crash data and the inspection data has been developed. The online application focused on bringing inspection data and crash data together to provide a better understanding of the effectiveness of roadside inspections, support the planning of roadside inspections, and enable the safety professionals to pinpoint weaknesses and problem areas. In this regard, we developed online GIS based data analysis software. The software was developed to assist the state police to analyze the traffic accident by time and location together with some statistics.

Another desktop application has been developed to visualize spatio-temporal traffic accident variation through several years. The application visualizes summary statistics of crash occurrences for each sub-segment of 1 mile in length. This type of information visualization allows decision maker to better understand global picture of the accidents on a road network.
