Abstract

Strategic Integration of GIS Technology Into Work Flow
Track: State and Local Government
Authors: Jacob Mundt

Since 2006, the Ada County Weed, Pest, and Mosquito Abatement Department has strategically implemented GIS as a core business function in our daily workflow. This presentation provides an overview of how the ESRI product family is being utilized at various levels. Currently, the reception staff utilizes an ArcGIS Server application to spatially query customer complaints and work orders while on the phone, decreasing the number of callbacks and increasing telephone client satisfaction. Field applicators complete work orders and track inventory on laptop computers equipped with ArcPad and several peripheral devices. ArcGIS Desktop is utilized in the office by Team Leads and Managers to manage departmental data and report on program activities. Results from this integration include more standardized data collection, optimized field data organization, a three tier validation on outstanding accounts, and a forecasted productivity increase of 200% in one of our department programs.
