Abstract

Implementing GIS Inside Hospital Walls; A Look at Asset Mapping
Track: Facilities Management
Authors: Michelle Ellington, Andrew Blues

In the winter of 2008, the University of Kentucky began a quest to design, build, and implement a custom GIS application to support occupancy of the new 16 floor, 1.2 million square foot Level 1 Trauma Center, UK Chandler Hospital Pavilion A. UK teamed up with Esri Business Partner, 39°N, and built a system with the primary function of storing asset information and generating room data sheets for tracking and analyzing the status of occupancy. Many innovative enhancements were created within 39°N's core eGIS application including CAD drawing overlay, on-the-fly symbolization, 360 image integration, and a powerful asset editing module. The system is also being expanded to serve as a facility management application for integrating campus-wide maintenance and operations.
