Abstract

Using Desktop Review for Residential Property Appraisal
Track: Cadastral and Land Records
Authors: Dwayne Scallion-Pond

Desktop Review uses GIS to integrate sketch and parcel vector data with imagery to provide an alternate method for residential property mass appraisal. The system presents a multitude of appraisal and GIS data to an appraiser at their desktop. This enables them to assess a large percentage of residential properties without an on-site visit. Oblique aerial imagery allows a property to be viewed from different directional angles with the use of an ArcGIS extension. The extension also synchronizes assessment data with GIS vector data and ortho imagery. Desktop Review results in assessments being more uniform and accurate. The cost of assessing residential properties and the amount of time required to reassess a typical residential property has reduced significantly with Desktop Review.
