Collecting As-Constructed Pipe Information Using GPS

Questar Gas Company is in the process of looking at how GPS technology could be used to improve the process of collecting as-constructed field note information on their gas facilities. We joined efforts with a vendor specializing in field data collection and completed a pilot project with them in 2010. The vendor was able to add additional customization to their software application. Some of the customization included a digital measuring tape and process to store and retrieve stationing values on linear features. This presentation will primarily discuss how Questar developed a GPS collection process and the plans they have for integrating into it other systems in their company.
