In an effort to improve organizational efficiency and bring added value to the way Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) conducts business, the MMSD has taken on a significant enterprise GIS implementation.
In order to emphasize the true enterprise nature of the vision, the MMSD took a three-phased approach in its implementation. In Phase I, the survey and analysis implementation phase, specific methods were used to identify application requirement/ design issues in context to maximizing return-on-investment. The result was defining common sets of requirements among planned business applications that became the "application framework".
This approach, as followed through in the subsequent implementation phase, has produced a modular and efficient design of a suite of ArcGIS Server-based business applications. This approach has produced programmatic benefits at all levels - administration, user and system. This session will highlight the overall approach and results to provide help in thinking through enterprise application design methods.
