Abstract

Delivering Decision Support Tools Through Web Processing Services and ArcGIS
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Paul Sliogeris

An appreciation of the physical operating environment is vital to the successful conduct of maritime operations. Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) operations are conducted by the Royal Australian Navy to ensure the safety and efficiency of air, surface and sub-surface navigation, and to enable maritime forces to utilise the above and below water physical operating environments for strategic, operational and tactical advantage.

This presentation will highlight some recent activities the Navy's Hydrography and METOC Branch have been involved with in testing OGC Web Processing Services and ArcGIS Server based mapping services to enable some powerful decision support tools such as; dynamic optimum cruise tracks based on ocean current and wind forecasts, and 'traffic light' rendering based on user defined thresholds of selected environmental parameters.
