KWR Watercycle Research Institute assists water companies in the Netherlands and Flanders by carrying out research and sharing knowledge.
In 2009 the research project called Geo-information for water companies started. The goal is to determine and test promising technological developments for applications in the water utility sector, for example the use of Geo-services, augmented reality techniques and mobile GIS.
Water companies require high quality geo-information and geoprocessing tools for their planning, daily operations, field work and own research. Geo-information is essential to face the challenges of efficient drinking water production, distribution, asset management, risk management and water quality control. Also modelling tools are developed to assess the effects of climate change and demographic processes on water resources, water quality and water demand.
The results of ongoing research will be presented and illustrated with examples using ArcGIS, mobile devices and integrated modelling software.
