Based on ArcGIS and networking technology, LaPsis (Land and Property Spatial Information Systems) is the first government-driven engine storing all land and landed property data including cadastre, ownership, title documents, deeds, administrative boundaries and points of interest amongst others in South Africa. LaPsis is used by the Housing Development Agency to identify, verify, manage and monitor state, communal and privately owned land thereby facilitating the acquisition, holding, development and release of these lands for residential and community purposes and for the creation of sustainable human settlements. The system offers sophisticated queries as well as graphic and alphanumeric display capabilities and the implementation thereof is allowing the agency to detect all gaps in the land identification and acquisition process. LaPsis also handles the generation of reports thus establishing itself as an intelligent reference system supporting strategic planning and guiding decision making processes at a national level in South Africa.
