Abstract

Migrating the DenverGIS Cadastral Coverages to the Parcel Fabric
Track: Cadastral and Land Records

DenverGIS has worked with ESRI staff to modernize one of the most important information assets for the City and County of Denver: Parcels and the survey data that underpins them. Converted from hardcopy maps in 2002, the amalgamation of two previously-separate layers from the Assessor's Office (Tax Parcels) and the City Surveyor's Office (Subdivisions, blocks and lots) was a signal accomplishment. At the time, region coverages were the only data structure that accommodated the partially-shared geometry of these two views of Denver's land ownership, allowing each agency to maintain their layers as an integrated whole.

With the release of ArcGIS 10, a more modern data structure became available - the Parcel Fabric. Denver and Esri conceptualized a "lighthouse project" to accomplish migration from coverage to the Fabric. This presentation focuses on the data transformation, training and workflow implementation that led to a successful transition to a state-of-the-practice
platform.
