Abstract

Lake Lanier Shoreline Management Permiting Application
Track: Charting and Data Collecting
Authors: Vickie LaMay

The Shoreline Management application (SLM) is used to process and manage SLM permits and includes a public internet website, an intranet website, and a mobile GIS. This version of SLM is being moved from Microsoft Access to Visual Basic and will reside on Toughbooks for ranger use in the field. Using aerial imagery, rangers can navigate to permit locations and can locate adjacent permits using the GIS coordinates of each permit. Created with ESRI layers, SLM also has ESRI map components which allow users to view GIS polygons of parcel data and timber harvests. Rangers can acquire GIS coordinates of permits through the Toughbook's GPS and can then view permits on a map, zoom to their locations, and compare permit locations. Rangers can draw individual docks and attach the drawings to permits, take photographs and upload them to permits, and collect digital signatures from permit owners while on site.
