Transition and Application of ArcGIS Server for a Transit Agency

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) in Chicago has upgraded its web based mapping applications from ArcIMS to ArcGIS Server 10, including applications using the Flex API. The new technology has benefited the agency in a myriad of ways. First, the Regional Transit Asset Management System (RTAMS), a transit data warehouse website for the Chicagoland region, utilizes ArcGIS Server for asset/services management, funding projects, and political jurisdiction mapping. Second, ArcGIS Server's enterprise environment has provided the agency the ability to disseminate more accurate data and interactive mapping functionality with non-GIS users.
The presentation will outline the RTA's steps in implementing ArcGIS Server and will discuss the simplicity of utilizing the Flex API. Lastly, the presentation will cover the useful applications for transit agencies currently deployed on the RTAMS website.
