In 2008, Vulcan Materials Company (VMC) began developing geodatabases related to their land holdings, exploration efforts, and imagery collection for its eight construction materials divisions. While the geodatabases accomplished the goal of cataloging the data, the databases lacked the ability to disseminate the data to a larger non-technical audience. As the Corporate Geological Services group began looking for ways to share the data, they quickly realized that a centralized database with web-based functionality was necessary. This presentation will focus on the efforts to create a common operational map of our historical and current land holdings.

VMC developed a custom application using ESRI's ArcGIS Server 10.0 Flex technology. The resulting application, VMap, is built on SQL Server while also leveraging several legacy datasets. It was constructed with a security layer linked to Active Directory controls. Multiple virtual tabs were utilized to allow users to switch between divisions and access diverse
datasets.
