Abstract

Animated Maps and Reclamation Priorities - Communicating with Stakeholders
Track: Mining and Geosciences
Authors: Linda DeLay

The New Mexico Mining and Minerals Division is collaborating with state, federal and tribal agencies to inventory and prioritize the reclamation of abandoned coal and legacy uranium mines. Public meetings occur to inform stakeholders of plans. We explore the potential of adding value to meetings with animated maps that display historical events and reclamation issues, as well as results of our GIS weighted overlay models. ArcGIS 10 was used in geospatial analysis and in the creation of animated maps.
