Satellite Earth Observation for International Environmental Policy Enhancement

NASA DEVELOP GEO is parner with Wise County Virginia. Students are working on three projects in Wise, VA. These teams are collaborating with teams in Monterrey, Mexico. The three different case studies are water quality in the Lerma River in Mexico, air quality in Monterrey Mexico and Dengue Fever outbreaks in Mexico. The data acquired in the research has been used to create deliverables that are handed to different agencies. They are used to enhance the different policies that are already in place. Parameters measured vary depending on the case study. Some of the parameters used have been humidity, temperature, amount of rain, land classification among many others. With the data collected and the use of GIS we have been able to map area that are more at risk from environmental threats as well as area with more risk percentage from vector borne disease such as Dengue Fever.
