Integration of GIS with Enterprise Application
Track: System Implementation for GIS

In 2006 Metropolitan St Louis Sewer District(MSD), St Louis, MO evaluated and decided to migrate all its GIS and Asset information to ArcGIS 9.1 platform. MSD partnered with ESRI to identified its core areas that can be integrated with the GIS system. Areas identified for integration were Environmental Compliance, Billing & Collection, Asset Management (Maximo7.1) and Financial System (Oracle EBS R12.1).

The biggest challenge before the technology team were integration of applications running on heterogeneous platforms (Windows and AIX), different application servers (Weblogic, Websphere and IIS) and designing application interface(API).

At MSD we have already successfully integrated ArcGIS with Billing and Financial(Oracle Projects). Work on Maximo integration with ArcGis is expected to be complete by June 2010.

This paper goes into details on different strategies available to implement with their pros and cons. This paper will help the integrators to develop a solution that will leverage service oriented architecture.
