Abstract

3D Scanning in Mammoth Cave National Park
Track: Parks and Natural Reserves
Authors: Aaron Addison

Early in 2010 a tripod mounted LIDAR unit was used to document over 2.5 miles of the Historic tour trail within Mammoth Cave. Over 120 stations were collected for a total data cloud of almost 20 million points. Data were used to create a 3D model of the cave passage to be used as a central focus of the new visitor center currently under construction.

Additionally, techniques developed durning this project will be used for educational purpose, documentation. and resource management.
