Abstract

Project management in complex GIS based projects
Track: System Implementation for GIS
Authors: Mohammed Mujtaba Shareef

Project management (PM) is application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements. PM is generally executed using 44 project processes encompassing five groups. However, a GIS component in a project affects most of processes due to the unique nature of GIS such as map drawing performance, spatial query requirements, and high degree of integration with geodatabase, long transaction and versioning. In addition, the project poses major challenge with respect to spatial scope, quality and procurement management. A case study of a complex GIS project will elaborate these complexities.
