Abstract

RVR Meander: Tool for assessing River Re-Meandering Practices
Track: Water Resources
Authors: Roberto Fernandez

Stream restoration projects at corridor scale often require the establishment of a stable planform configuration. RVR Meander is a computational platform with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) in ArcGIS-ArcMap for assessing stability and predicting migration rates and patterns of re-meandered alignments. The design channel centerline is entered as polyline or imported from text file by the user. Complementary parameters such as flow rate, width, slope, bank geometry and properties are input through a userform or imported from text file. Migrated centerlines over a user-specified period and two-dimensional flow-field description are output in ArcMap. The GUI allows the user to set up and run simulations of migration in the same environment, taking advantage of the GIS built-in tools for managing polylines and TINs. The RVR Meander tool is for professionals in the field of river restoration and naturalization.
