Abstract

GIS Data Quality Assurance and Reconciliation at Chesapeake Midstream
Track: Pipeline and Gas Utilities
Authors: Katy Rich

The use of GIS at Chesapeake Midstream grew quickly as the company's gas gathering operations spread across the United States. As the system developed to meet the needs of the growing company, solutions were implemented quickly to get the job done. With this necessary approach came issues such as data gaps and incomplete processes. At the same time, GIS emerged as a highly valued information source for management and others across the business. To address the issues, we have been using several tools in ArcGIS Desktop and ArcSDE for evaluating and correcting data quality, and integrating with TIBCO's Spotfire software for reporting. We have also completed an extensive data reconciliation project to address data gaps. This presentation will focus on the tools and processes used to assess data quality as well as the data reconciliation process that targeted key pipeline attributes for data improvement.
